CCS Graduation 2010

Bravo
The Center for Cartoon Studies graduating class of 2010 is an amazing class full of talented and ambitious cartoonists. I'm very excited to see them finish their two-year courses and I can't wait to see what they do next.

Evan Dorkin
Evan Dorkin gave a hilarious commencement speech full of wry, anxious wisdom.

As a request from CCS and as an expression of our adoration of this class, Maxime de Radigues and I put together this print for the students.

We split all the duties 50/50. We sketched ideas based on each other's ideas, and when it was time for the final art we traded the drawing back and forth and each did different buildings and characters.

I inked the buildings (pictured above) while Max inked the figures and letters. Then we shared coloring duties, trading drafts of colored versions back and forth. I then separated the colors into layers suitable for printing (there are a few transparency discrepancies, like with the book-bag and with the green pants: totally my fault) and we burned the screens and set to work printing. The print is roughly 11" by 14" and is made by printing five colors. Three of those colors overlapped with each other creating a total of eight colors. It was a fun collaboration, I learned a ton from Max and from the process, and we did all of it in three days.
