BC&G Festival

BC&GFest-(2)
Chuck Forsman, and Alex Kim

The Brooklyn Comics & Graphics Festival was pretty great.
Shows that are free to attendees always end up being awesome, if TCAF, Expozine and this weekend's show are any indication.

The space was kind of tight when it was really busy, but it was still very well organized and the lighting was good too, and busy is a good thing at a show, right?

Also, nearly every table was awesome. I hope this show happens next year.

Thanks to Gabe, from Desert Island, and Dan, from Picture Box, for putting the show together, and thanks to my table and travel mates.

Brooklyn Comics and Graphics Festival

Just a reminder that I'll be at the Brooklyn Comics and Graphics Festival tomorrow.
Come by the Sundays (we actually have half a table) table to check out Chuck's new mini!
I'll have a new small print and will be very happy to do some mini-comic trading or some sketching.

Below is a sample from the mini that I didn't finish in time for this show:

CC Samples 18 and News

CCSmpl18
G-Nib & Ink

This is the last sample from my Cartoon College illustrations. I've pretty much posted everything except for a couple panels. Not sure if I'm going to post the color versions one at a time or all at once, but that will come next week probably.

In other news I was included in The Best American Comics 2009's Notable Comics List for my Untitled (Caveman) story. Also in the list were several of my buddies' comics, including:

Steve Bisette,
“Secrets & Lies, Windows & Wounds” Secrets and Lies #7
Ken Dahl, “Gordon Smalls Hurts Himself” from Welcome to the Dahl House
Sean Ford, Only Skin Issue 2 Fall 2007 and Only Skin Issue 3
Charles Forsman, Snake Oil 01 2008 and Snake Oil 02
Alexis Frederick-Frost, “Letter” from 3 Stories
James Sturm, Satchel Paige: Striking Out Jim Crow

It was a very cool year (or couple of years) for good comics. I'm proud to be on the list with such good company. My thanks to the BAC editors.

More news:

Sean Ford's excellent comic series, Only Skin, will be collected and published by Secret Acres in 2011 (issue 5 sample above). In the meantime, issue 4 debuted last fall. Pick it up if you haven't already!

Alt-comics champ and super nice guy, Rich Tommaso, has a brand new website where he will be posting pages of comics (sample above) every day, five days a week!
Rich is immensely talented. A few years ago I had the opportunity to add the gray tones to Rich's art for the Satchel Paige biography that he illustrated and James Sturm wrote. Getting to spend 40-50 pages staring at Rich's beautiful cartooning was an awesome way to spend internship hours and I really appreciate the experience. I wish you the best Rich, and look forward to the comics!

My buddy Colleen Frakes just finished her 100-page graphic novel (sample above) as part of her challenge to herself this month. Read the whole thing HERE.
Colleen, your dedication and work ethic are an inspiration to all of us!
